10th February 2011
Two groups of year 9 students have just finished their Flower projects and some of the work has been incredible.
Students carry out a mini GCSE project, looking at artists, recording flower images, experimenting with techniques and making any product that they like as long as it links to flowers.
It was so difficult to choose the winners.
Highly commended were Helena Irvine, Nina Venton, Jordan Timms and Jemima Hill
Prizes were awarded to:
Claire Geller for her really interesting sketchbook and lovely bear.
Lucy Robinson for her sketchbook and customised hat.
Lucy Kershaw worked so hard on her beautiful Fushcia inspired hand made hat and produced some superb work in her sketchbook.
Laura Costard was overall winner. Her sketchbook was inspiring and her Herb house was so beautifully stitched.
Well done year 9.
There will be a great deal of cutting edge Textiles happening soon.
Mrs Concannon belongs to a Textiles group called ‘Diversity’. Their next exhibition will be on 3rd March and will run into the Textiles showcase.
The Textiles showcase at the Harbour gallery is on from Mon 7th – Sun 13th March . Many famous Textile artists will come to the Island to run workshops and exhibit their work. Some students will be putting their work into the Festival of the sea competition for this year’s event.
The Eisteddfod will be open on Thursday 17th until Sunday 20th March and many year 7 students have entered their bags, yr 8 students their cushions and year 9 and above, some amazing Textiles pieces.
Around this time both GCSE and A level students will be taking their real practical exams and we are looking forward to seeing even more outstanding outcomes during this busy period.
