The students and staff at JCG enjoyed some thought provoking and inspiring presentations, discussions and workshops on Friday. Students from years 7-13 were both excited and amazed by some of what they heard from a wide range of presenters.
Bonita Norris, the youngest person in the world to have stood at both ‘tops of the world,’ reaching the summit of Everest in 2010 and he North Pole in 2011 aged just 22 and 23, inspired the students to believe that anything is possible with hard work and perseverance; whilst Florence Jumpp, a co-worker of Camila Batmanghelidjh, the inspirational founder of Kids Company in the UK, described how she overcame severe adversity to succeed against all the odds.
Other presenters included Viv Bird, an ‘old girl’ now living in London and working with the charity Bookstrust, who worked with students in the English Department, Dr Elena Moran who opened our eyes to the stark inequality within Jersey in terms of Women in Leadership positions and Susie Pinel who hosted discussions on Women in Politics in Jersey.
The day was a great success and there was a palpable ‘buzz’ around the College. It will no doubt have sparked ideas and discussions, on which we can build in the future.
