Visiting Astronomer

25th February 2013

On Wednesday 20th February, students enjoyed and interesting and informative lunchtime when Professor Andrew Newsam visited JCG to provide a lecture on Astronomy.

Students were enthralled as they learnt about the techniques used in observing the night sky and even how to stop an asteroid coming too close to Earth. This was one of the most fascinating and unusual topics and students were surprised to hear that one of the methods used involved painting one side of the asteroid white! Professor Newsam also invited students to work on an exciting project searching for asteroids that could potentially be dangerous for Earth.

It was a pleasure to receive such an enlightening talk and we hope it is not too long before Professor Newsam returns to College to give another brilliant lecture.
