We very much look forward to using our partnership with the JCG Foundation to cement a strong relationship between JCG and Le Masurier to achieve our aspirations for Island students.’
Building the Future, Shaping our World is a global female engineering competition being run by Rachel Hayden, a year 12 student at Jersey College for Girls, through the International Women’s Academy (IWA) to promote women in engineering. With the help of a fellow student, the competition was launched on Wednesday 7th January 2015 and will be judged next week with the winners being announced after the Easter holidays.
‘After being first introduced to engineering through a local CIGPE competition I felt that running a female engineering competition not just locally but globally, would be a fun and exciting way to promote the engineering industry to women around the world. I am thrilled ten teams have entered the local part of this inaugural competition” commented Rachel Hayden.
The competition is split into two sections.
The Jersey competition sponsored by Le Masurier, is open to female individuals or teams up to 4 people, aged 13-18, who currently live in the island. The task is to design a sports venue for the derelict Fort Regent site. The winning team will receive four Ipad mini 3’s and four tickets to the opening ceremony of the Jersey Island Games 2015, will present their design to the States Assembly and enter the global competition. However all entries will be displayed as part of the Jersey Island Games 2015.
All entries will be marked next week by a panel of judges which consists of the Jersey Chief Minister Ian Gorst, Dr Jon Hare an Engineering Professor at the University of Southampton, John Rogers the Head of Transport and Technical Services, Becky Slater a Civil Engineer at Arup, Brian McCarthy, Managing Director, Le Masurier and Steven Bailey the Games Director of Jersey Island Games 2015.
