SPELL Induction Training

14th December 2010

On Tuesday 14th December 42 students completed the SPELL Induction training which was delivered by Suzanne Rentsch and Kim Waters of Autism Jersey.

SPELL Induction introduced Autism & Asperger Syndrome. It concentrated on Autism & Asperger Syndrome Awareness and examined early indicators, how to get a diagnosis, what support is available on the Island and how the students would structure the environment to accommodate a child with Autism in their care.

SPELL is a nationally recognised qualification and all the students will receive a certificate that is provided by the National Autistic Society. SPELL stands for Structure, Positive (approaches and expectations), Empathy, Low arousal, Links.

Attendees must complete the two sessions and in the correct order.

We hope that many of the girls will now go on to be a Befriender for Autism Jersey.
