8th November 2011
On the morning of Thursday the 3rd of November, a number of year 11 students took part in the GCSE French Masterclass, sponsored by Ogier. Students from every secondary school across the island participated in the event and it was fun to work with people form other schools.
Dr. Tom Wynn, a senior lecturer from Durham University, gave us all an insight into learning languages at university and how a language could affect the way you learn and also increase your chances of employment after university.
Throughout the day, students attended five workshops, one of which was run by JCG A2 French students. The activities helped improve our French in general as well as our love for the language! Students had the chance to experience a university taster session with Dr. Tom Wynn in which they analysed a section of the French film ‘Belle de Jour’. In other workshops we revised ‘La Vie Saine’, ‘Mon Stage en Entreprise’ and also A* Structures and checking strategies.
The event was a great success; I had a great time and I feel that this event has increased my passion for languages.
