7th March 2011
On Thursday 3rd March four teams of JCG students became Advocates for a short while in the first round of the Baker and Partners Youth Advocacy Competition.
Watched by Mrs Slater, Mrs Taylor and Mr. Hamel from Victoria College the students from JCG presented to the “Court” against four teams from Victoria College. The level of preparation was extremely high with some students quoting previous cases as legal precedence and others quoting the research they had carried out. They were questioned by the “Judge” and “Jurats” on points they had made and had to think on their feet to give appropriate answers.
The competition was fierce and nerves were running high. Two teams from JCG were rewarded for their excellent delivery and professional approach and they have been successful in getting through to the next round. Eight students in total began the competition: Caitlin Pilbeam and Lucy Osborne; Yasmin Denney and Laura Skudder; Isobel Pedley and Holly D’Anger; Hannah Searson and Fiona Potigny.
Isobel and Holly, together with Hannah and Fiona will be competing again on March 22nd in the second round of this interesting and demanding event.
