Collège André Malraux, Granville

Each year a group of Y8 students foster links with students from the Collège André Malraux in Granville. They begin by attending a lunchtime club and writing to their French penpals to establish the link and share information about themselves.
Students from the French school spend two days in Jersey, visiting JCG and enjoying collaborative activities with JCG students around the island.
Our students pay a return visit to Granville where they spend more time with their penpals, get to know Granville and visit Mont St Michel. They gain knowledge of French culture and the country’s education system as well as developing their language skills.
One student’s reaction:
I really enjoyed meeting my pen friend as it gave us both the chance to talk to each other and mix up the languages, despite the many misunderstandings! My favourite activity was definitely the quiz at St. Brelade’s Bay because it was written in both languages and there was a lot of playing around trying to act out what driftwood meant! I will keep in touch with my pen friend and we both love to talk to each other. I would really encourage others to go on this trip as it really developed my French and I have learnt lots of new vocabulary. It is a brilliant experience and I am so glad to have had the opportunity!
