Eco Club

This year the roles of Eco Captain and Deputy Captain were given to Louise Whale and Emily Warren.

Jersey College for Girls’ Eco Club which meets every Wednesday lunchtime to discuss various issues and ideas that the school can put into place to ensure that we fulfil our environmental responsibilities. This year has seen the greatest attendance to date, showing that JCG students are Eco Aware and Eco Active.

JCG has already won various awards such as the Eco Schools Gold and Silver Award and the Eco Active Sustainable Schools Award. JCG was delighted to be the first secondary school in Jersey to be awarded Green Flag status.

We are delighted with these achievements and hope to continue with the positive work that has been done so far. This year, we plan to renovate the Science Garden and improve the school’s aesthetic by planting flowers and a vegetable patch. Eco Club will involve the students much more and our efforts will be focused on making College more eco friendly and developing a greener environment with a herb garden, compost site and insect friendly flowers. We also plan to help the Jersey beaches by doing a beach clean as regularly as possible.

Our main objective as Eco Captains this year is to encourage more students to become eco-active minded in environmental activities both inside and outside of school. There are many important issues involved and we hope that all students share our enthusiasm for the year ahead.
