National Women in Engineering Day

JCG student Annie Bugbird has won a local competition to design a new sports venue for Fort Regent.
Building the Future, Shaping our World is both a local and global female engineering competition organised by Rachel Hayden, Head Girl at Jersey College for Girls, through the International Women’s Academy (IWA) to promote women in engineering.
‘After being first introduced to engineering through a local CIGPE competition I felt that running a female engineering competition not just locally but globally, would be a fun and exciting way to promote the engineering industry to women around the world,’ commented Rachel Hayden.
The Jersey competition, sponsored by Le Masurier, was open to female individuals or teams of up to 4 people, aged 13-18, who currently live in the island. The task was to design a sports venue for the derelict Fort Regent site.
Ten teams from across the Island’s schools entered the competition. Designs ranged from an indoor ski slope, a velodrome and sports science research labs.
